BMX phenom Nigel Sylvester loves the Air Jordan 1. He rides in the retro almost exclusively, rocking gems like the OFF WHITE x Air Jordan 1 in his latest GO 5 in Europe and even debuting the “Rust Pink” colorway on Instagram. On the night of his world premiere of GO 5, he confirmed that he and Jordan Brand have an Air Jordan 1 releasing this Summer, although the design of the shoe still remains a mystery.In an earlier episode of Beyond The Box, Nigel told the story about how he got his hands on the Air Jordan 1 “Rust Pink” (watch below).
As the lines between the worlds of fashion and sport continue to blur, more and more NBA players have begun wearing limited-edition sneakers on court, sometimes even pairs not even intended for performance use. From Nick Young to Devin Booker and more, many a player has turned heads with their on-court footwear … but try as they may, none can really hold a candle to the NBA’s sneaker don, PJ Tucker of the Houston Rockets.It’s no secret that Tucker has been unofficially holding the top spot in the world of on-court kicks for a few seasons. Having played everything from “Red October” Yeezy 2s back in 2015 to OFF WHITE Jordan 1s and “Cactus Jack” Jordan 4s and more this year his propensity for donning exquisite footwear whenever he steps on the hardwood is well-known. Now his crown has been verified by his peers: he was recently voted the official sneaker champ of the NBA by the NBA Player’s Association as part of their Player’s Voice Awards, and it’s an honor that’s certainly hard —if not impossible—to argue. We’ll have to wait till next season to see what further heat Tucker can bring to the court, as his Houston Rockets were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, but while we wait, check out some of Tucker’s finest playoff kicks from this year below.
Big logos and bold branding are arguably the hottest trends in sneakers right now, with everything from Virgil Abloh‘s iconic “The Ten” collection to the classic Air Max 1 joining the ranks of branding-swatched kicks. Now, it’s the Jordan 1‘s turn to join the madness in earnest as images of the OG model with bold Nike branding have recently surfaced. The shoe’s upper is dressed in a tonal reddish-orange – an apparent nod to the brand’s iconic color, with the aforementioned Nike branding arriving on the lateral and medial midfoot panels. The left shoe features a Nike script logo hit on the lateral side with Nike’s trademark text (usually found on a Jordan 1’s tongue tag) on the medial side, while the right shoe offers an inverse look by moving the trademark text to the lateral side and switching the bold logo hit from “Nike” to “Air” while also moving it to the medial side. A straightforward white Jordan 1 midsole and reddish-orange outsole complete the shoe’s look.While anything with technical writing on its upper will be understandable compared to the aforementioned “The Ten” by Virgil Abloh, it’s worth noting that Undefeated presented a Nike Dunk High with a similar approach to bold and gaudy branding long before OFF WHITE got a chance to reimagine those pieces.
